Recent Reflection

May 13, 2012

What a great week. First, Ted and I traveled to Ocean City, Maryland to the Maryland Library Association's yearly conference. At the luncheon I received the Maryland Blue Crab Young Reader Award for JUST ONE BITE. It's meaningful for many reasons. I know, first of all, how much time and energy go into the selection of any book award. Committee members read and discuss books for several months to come to their collaborative decision. Thank you, committee members, for your investment in the selection process.

Testimonials

  • Lola Schaefer has worked with our teachers for three years. Through her guidance and support they have grown as writing teachers and are now comfortable using mentor texts to teach different genres of writing as well as the craft of writing. In one year our fifth grade writing scores increased almost 20 percentage points which we attribute in large part to Lola’s giving our teachers the tools to expect our students to write more organically.
