What a Vacation!
We're back from ten days of hiking and visiting Indian ruins in the southwest. It was wonderful! We learned so much about the early Pueblo Indians. What a resourceful group of people. When their water supply became scarce, they devised new gathering techniques or moved. When building materials dwindled, they created new types of dwellings under stone ledges. With only rock, plants and animals at their disposal they created ropes and snares, vessels that could hold and carry water, clothing, art on stone walls, spears and points, pottery, large looms, and more. They dug footholds in the rock to enter their homes from above or below. And they traveled hundreds of miles on foot to trade or visit other tribes. At a time when all of us are faced with new challenges, whether economical, physical or social, we can study these people and marvel at what they accomplished and the rich legacy they left behind.
Here I am exploring a ruins at Mesa Verde in Colorado.
