Coming Soon . . .

September 12, 2011

I can still remember the conversation with my editor at I Can Read Books (HarperCollinsPublishers) that resulted in the first MITTENS book. Now, next month - October, 2011 - the fifth book in that series will debut. I'm thrilled. In this My First I Can Read, Mittens will revisit his friend Max. Or should I say, he will try to find his pal Max. The My First I Can Read books bridge emergent readers as they become fluent with simple, yet satisfying stories. Through the use of lively text, picture cues, syntax and phonetically supportive prose, these readers build confidence and experience success.

As I visit schools, more and more Kindergarten and first grade students tell me how much they enjoy MITTENS and BISCUIT. Written by Alyssa Capucilli, Biscuit books paved the way for many other My First I Can Read books. Biscuit, a happy puppy, has many adventures that, of course, resemble the same experiences as the readers. Biscuit books entertain the dog lovers, Mittens books entertain the cat lovers. Between the two, many emergent readers now know the joy of reading. And isn't that the point of it all!
